Micro Star International (MSI), on Monday unveiled its new laptop in F-series line-up for the Indian market.

 

"MSI worked in close collaboration with internationally renowned sound system experts from Dynaudio and THX to design the F-Series notebooks so that they would be both powerful and offer amazing sound," MSI India's Managing Director, Tony Yang said during the launch.

 

The F-series line-up includes FX400, FX600 and FR600. The model comes at prices ranging from Rs. 37,000 to Rs. 53,000 depending upon the configuration. The new models, with 14 to 17 inches wide screen, has Wi-Di (Wireless Display) that can be used for sharing laptop content with the HDTV wirelessly.

 

Other specifications of the laptop include intel core i5 processor, intel turbo boost and intel hyper-threading technologies.

 

"We hope the young mass in the country will accept our F-Series," Yang said.

 

MSI is a large international technology firm with its product portfolio including manufacturing mainboards, notebooks, PCs, graphics cards, consumer electronics and car infotainment products among other products.

Samsung Pitches 240 Hz LCD Technology

Seoul (Korea) - Samsung said it will demonstrate a new LCD technology at the upcoming SID 2008 International Symposium that will double the maximum image refresh rate of current LCD panels. The manufacturer believes that 240 Hz panels will reproduce images closer to that of a real moving image perceived by the human eye.

After HD, skyrocketing contrast and brightness ratios that treat consumers to already life-like experiences in front of their TV (at least if I compare today’s image quality to the snowstorm picture on my parent’s 1970s and 1980s TVs), there’s a new idea that promises to come even closer to an out-the-window view on future LCD TVs. Samsung’s "Blue Phase" technology upgrades the current maximum image refresh rate of 120 Hz of to 240 Hz. The manufacturer will show a prototype panel at the SID 2008 International Symposium and promises that the device will display "more natural moving images."

Samsung said that a "superior response rate" enables it to increase the speed without a need for any overdrive circuit. According to the company, Blue Phase does not require liquid crystal alignment layers, unlike today’s most widely used LCD modes such as Twisted Nematic, In-Plane Switching or Vertical Alignment. Instead, the technology mode can create its own alignment layers, eliminating the need for any mechanical alignment and rubbing processes. This reduces the number of required fabrication processes, resulting in considerable savings on production costs, Samsung said.

Another benefit of the technology that brightness changes across the screen are a thing of the past:, as they are not vulnerable to pressure on certain parts of the panel. The term "Blue Phase" relates to the developer’s observation of "bluish hues while watching their new liquid crystal mode in operation," Samsung said.

The technology is still far from being offered in commercial products: Samsung believes that Blue Phase LCDs could be put into mass-production sometime in 2011. These LCD panels are expected to be used mainly in "TVs that require high-speed video reproduction," the manufacturer said.

Samsung’s New LCD TV goes on a diet – just 1cm thick

This 40 inch LCD is just 1cm thick, and uses an LED backlight, this is pretty thin for a HDTV.

iPhone 4 China Launch May Zap Grey Market

Whith Apple's official launch of the iPhone 4 in China this weekend, it should put an end to the lucrative grey market for unlocked iPhones in the country.
The New York Times this week, reported Chinese men and women regularly queuing outside New York Apple Stores to buy iPhones to send to China.
"People wait in line at an Apple store buy the newest iPhone for $600, paying a premium to skip the AT&T contract," writes Nick Bilton.
"They then sell the phones to middlemen, usually at electronics stores in Chinatown, for about $750." Those who queue to buy the phones, can make as much as $300 in one morning.
Despite many living in poverty or on low wages, the latest iPhone 4 can then fetch as much as $1,000 once the phones have been unlocked.
The irony, as Bilton points out, is that the iPhone is actually manufactured in China, but then makes the long journey back to be sold on to those eager to have the latest gadgets. Phones are smuggled back to China, often taped to bodies, or hidden in shipping containers with other goods.
Apple's decision to offer the iPhone 4 in China officially should put an end to the trade, and reportedly the price of smuggled phones has already dropped in anticipation.
It should also end accusations of racism from some Apple Store staff who have been accused of overly quizzing Asian customers, with some being told they could not buy the iPhone 4.
"I don't deny that there is a serious concern that Apple has," Grace Meng, a New York State assemblywoman told the newspaper. "We just want to make sure that no one is singled out because of their ethnicity or because they don't speak perfect English."
In China on Saturday, the iPhone 4 will sell for CNY 4,999 (£472/$744) for the 16GB model and CNY 5,999 for the 32GB model (£575/$893). Apple is also opening the Apple Store Hong Kong Plaza in Shanghai and the Apple Store Xidan Joy City in Beijing opening on the same day.
